Akuma rules ranked, Blanka rules the bracket: SF6 has two metas, not one

The FGMatchup archive is now 568 matches curated one by one: 518 from Street Fighter 6 and 50 from Super Turbo. At that volume you can do something a tier list never does: separate where each match came from.

Two lists that look nothing alike

Across the 237 high-level ranked matches, Akuma shows up 70 times, nearly double Sagat (39) and far ahead of C.Viper (31). Across the 270 tournament matches, Akuma collapses to eighth place with 20 appearances, and the one on top is Blanka with 35, followed by Mai (27) and Ed (25).

Why that happens

It isn't a contradiction: they are two different sets of incentives. The ladder rewards what works without preparation — constant pressure, safe tools, punishment by default — and there Akuma is unbeatable as a return on your time. The bracket rewards what holds up against someone who has already watched you play, with plans changing mid-set and five rounds to adjust. MenaRD's Blanka isn't a popular character: it's a game plan that survives a Bo5.

The practical takeaway is uncomfortable but useful: copy from the ladder and you learn to beat strangers fast; copy from the bracket and you learn to beat the same person three times. Those are different skills. The finder has a source filter so you can see it for yourself.
